How to Stop a Flood Machine on DonutSMP (Anti-Flood Guide)

Team Anti-Flood playbook: how to spot an incoming flood machine, break it safely, drain your base and build so water never reaches you in the first place.

7 min readBy Donut Schematics Team

Flood machines are everywhere on DonutSMP right now, which means the other half of the server has turned into a cleanup crew. If your base is under water, or you can see a slime block contraption crawling toward you across the sky, this is the anti-flood playbook.

Spot it early

  • Water appearing at an unnatural height, far above sea level.
  • A thin pillar of blocks going almost to build height nearby.
  • Repeating piston clicks in chunks where nobody is building.
  • Rising lag or entity clutter around a single loaded chunk.

The earlier you catch it the cheaper the fix is. A machine that has run for ten minutes leaves a puddle. One that has run overnight leaves a lake.

Break the machine, not the water

Everything the machine does depends on the piston and observer loop staying intact. Kill the loop and the whole thing stops mid-air.

  1. Fly up next to it with elytra, staying above or behind the water front so you do not get pushed off.
  2. Break a single observer or sticky piston. That is enough, you do not need to dismantle the slime.
  3. Clean up the leftover slime blocks so nobody can restart it from the same spot.
  4. Look for the boat at the back. That is the owner's AFK seat, and often the owner.

Bring a totem, a water bucket for the fall and a spare elytra. Machine owners tend to notice when their contraption stops and they usually come back armed.

Drain what is already there

  • Sponges are the fastest tool. Place, let it soak, break, dry it in a furnace and repeat. Buy them off the Auction House in bulk when a flood is active.
  • Sand or gravel works for deep vertical shafts, drop it in and mine it back out.
  • Non-source flow disappears on its own once you remove the source blocks above it, so always work top down.
  • Ice is a cheap trick for large flat areas, freeze it and mine it.

Build so it does not matter

The real anti-flood defence is design. Water only ruins a base that assumes open air.

  • Roof everything. A solid ceiling means water flows over, not in.
  • Use trapdoors and signs on entrances to block flow without blocking movement.
  • Keep farms enclosed, especially anything that relies on mob spawning or item drops.
  • Go underground with a sealed entrance instead of an open surface courtyard.
  • Keep a stack of sponges and a spare set of gear in your ender chest at all times.

The anti-flood machine schematic

Team Anti-Flood also has its own contraption. The Anti Flood Machine schematic is on the library with a 3D preview and material list, so you can paste it in Litematica and clear an area instead of hand-mining water for an hour. If you want to understand what you are fighting first, read how flood machines work, or grab the flood machine schematic and pick the other side.

Whichever team you are on, everything here is a free download in the schematics library, with block counts and live Auction House prices so you know the cost before you start.
