How a basalt generator works
Basalt forms when lava flows over soul soil and touches blue ice. Unlike a cobblestone generator, water is not involved, so the setup is compact and works in the Overworld.
Every time the basalt is removed, a new block forms in the same spot, which is what makes it easy to automate.
What you need
- Soul soil under the spot where basalt should form
- Blue ice next to the lava flow
- A lava source block
- Pistons, observers or a tunnel bore setup to push and collect blocks
- Hoppers and chests, or a player with an efficiency pickaxe for semi AFK mining
Automating it on DonutSMP
- Build the generator cell: soul soil floor, blue ice on one side, lava flowing in from the other.
- Place an observer watching the basalt block, wired to a piston that pushes the new block forward into a collection line.
- Repeat the cell in a row so one piston line collects from many generators at once.
- Mine the pushed line with an efficiency V pickaxe and haste, or break it with a tnt duper if your setup allows it.
- Store the output in shulkers before selling or using it for builds.
Hide it like a stash
Lava and particles are visible from far away, so build underground or enclose the farm fully. Treat it like any other DonutSMP stash: far from paths, no obvious tunnels and a hidden entrance.
