How border expansions work
DonutSMP runs a fixed world border that the staff expand at intervals rather than on a public countdown. Expansions are tied to server milestones and season progress, not to a fixed date you can look up, which is exactly why the search never returns a clean answer.
When it happens, the border moves outward and a ring of completely untouched chunks opens. Everything in that ring is unclaimed, unraided and unmined, fresh caves, fresh terrain and, crucially, land nobody has coordinates for yet.
Where the expansion is announced
There is no reliable third-party countdown. If a site claims to know the exact date, it is guessing. Turn on Discord announcement notifications instead, that is the only genuine early warning.

- The server's social accounts, usually shortly after the Discord post.
How to prepare for the next expansion
The whole advantage of an expansion is time, not space. A stash that takes six hours to build is worth less than a proven design you can paste and finish in one sitting.
- Have your stash schematic downloaded and your materials already gathered before the border moves.
- Stock elytra, rockets and food: the players who profit most are the ones who fly out furthest in the first hours.
- Pick a direction nobody announces. Diagonals are less travelled than cardinal directions.
- Travel by nether when you can and never in a straight line from spawn.
- Build immediately. Fresh land only stays safe until the first sweep of raiders follows you out.
Why new land is the best stash opportunity
Raiders find stashes by following traces: paths, lit caves, nether portals, mined-out veins. Fresh border chunks have none of those, so a well-placed underground stash out there survives far longer than anything built near spawn.
The mistake most players make is treating new land as a place to build big. Build small, build deep, and leave the surface untouched.
